Chantry Island Infographic

Chantry Island is located almost a kilometer off the shores off Southampton in Lake Huron. Once serving as a lighthouse to aide sailors along the cobbled shores of Southampton, Chantry Island is now a migratory bird sanctuary, nesting approximately 50,000 birds in the peak of breeding season. Because of preservation initiatives like this sanctuary, the wetland bird population has raised about 20% from the 1970’s.
